Plans For August 2022

What's happening in August

Tuesday 16th August Club lunch meeting guest speaker is Bob Bush who is known for his poetry and public speaking.
Please come and make new friends.  Enjoy a nice lunch and be entertained by our guest speaker.
Come along and join us!

2022 July

Our guest speaker is Carol Mead, convenor of Days for Girls.  This organization sews washable sanitary items for underprivileged women and clothing for orphans in the third world.

July's  social outing was enjoyed by members who went to Canberra Glassworks.
A nice warm place to go to with the furnaces burning on a freezing Canberra day.  Members watched the glass blowing by glass artist's in residence.  Plus enjoyed a talk about a  limited commission of glass boots made into a wine carafes by a winery of Daniel Ricciardo Grand prix drivers boot.  So much work to produce this carafe.

Off To The Races

In May we were off to the races which was enjoyed by our members.  We had two tables booked in the members stand at Canberra Racecourse.

A lovely lunch was enjoyed by all. Our social outing organizer ran sweeps for every race for those who wanted to enter.  Plus there was a competition for the best hat and best filly on the day.   It was a lot of fun to get dressed and finds hat.

Some fine fillies, and hats, at the races

2022 May

May was a very busy month for our members, and Members enjoyed a successful Club luncheon.  The activity was a Blind Auction.  We certainly raised quite a tidy sum of money to support The Smith Family and Learning for Life programs.

The auction was a lot of fun with members trying to outbid each other.  Below is a photo showing our auction in progress.

Plans for May

We are all looking forward to our May lunch meeting a Blind Auction raising money for the Smith Family,  plus it's a lot of fun.

Our Craft and Chatter group will be meeting later in the month, lots of chatter and laughs and a bit of craft .

There is a May Movie morning for members who wish to see a movie together followed by lunch.

The outing for May is "we're off to the races".  We are getting all dressed up for lunch in the Members lounge while watching the live horse racing.

We have a social get together once a month.

Federation Square

The photo below shows Ladies enjoying a social outing to Federation Square for morning tea and shopping followed by lunch and more shopping.

2022 April ANZAC

Two of our members Jill (on right) and Jan sitting at the table for our April ANZAC lunch meeting.  The table decorations were made by our Craft and Chatter group which meets monthly. The Poppies are made of recycled ends of soft drink bottles. The ANZAC biscuits and Senmore biscuits in the packet were made and donated by club members. Senmore biscuits were sent to the NZ serving groups in WW2. Mothers would send these biscuits to their boys who wrote back "gosh loved your biscuits would you send more"  Hence the name of the biscuits.

Julie our Craft leader and the designer of the table settings with a wreath also made by our Craft Ladies.  The knitted Poppies on the wreath were made by many of our members for the centenary of the First World War in 2018. The Australian  War Memorial asked for hand made  Poppies and we had so many being made by members we kept some to make the wreath for our future April ANZAC  lunch meetings.
