Pamper Auction Items

2022 November

There was a good attendance for our annual Pamper Auction and we always welcome new members and guests.

After our general meeting and a delicious meal, we had the main attraction of our night.  Our Annual Pamper Auction is great fun and a great fundraiser. All items are donated by members or friends and our Auctioneer Julie kept up a good pace with the auction as there were a large number of lots. We raised over $600 for the night and this money goes towards our students in the Smith Family Learning for Life Program.  A big thank you to everyone who donated items and also to everyone who attended.

On the Saturday 29 October 2022 our club had a fundraiser with the BBQ at Bunnings. This is a wonderful part of our fundraising for The Smith Family Learning for Life Program. Our Club sponsors six students as well as assisting our Zone sponsor one student so we need to raise about $5000 each year. We also support the Smith Family Toy and Book Appeal each year with about $500. The Smith Family Toy and Book Appeal aims to deliver over 75,000 new toys and 50,000 new books to children in need around Australia.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 7 December 2022 and will be our Christmas Party, where everyone brings a small gift for our Secret Santa.  It is a fun way to finish our year.  This year has been a great year for our club after coping with Covid and shutdowns in the previous few years.  Visitors and guests are always welcome to come and join everyone and enjoy an evening with women from all walks of life and listening to a great guest speaker. For all enquiries please contact Julie on 0408 215 553 or Jenny on 0429 726 630.

Happenings

At our October meeting Member numbers were down.  This was partly due to other commitments, as it is the season of parties, but also illness kept some Members away, and hopefully with the warmer weather (we hope) coming we will see more of our members soon, and new members are always welcome.

Members Kelly and Nancy celebrated their birthdays in October and were presented with a gift of chocolate from President Julie.

The major highlight of the night was the drawing of our raffle which was a beautiful, crocheted rug donated by Tracey to support our five Learning for Life students. The winner was Robyn, and Deb accepted the rug, on her behalf of her sister.

On Saturday 27 September we had a Soup and Sandwich lunch to raise funds and also to enjoy a social occasion with members and guests.  We had a fun handbag auction and guess the number of lollies in a jar, while enjoying soup, sandwiches, sausages rolls and lots of delicious goodies, as we sat and enjoyed each other's company.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 9 November 2022 at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club and this will be our Pamper auction.  It will be a fun night with lots of pamper items up for auction.

2022  September

Members Chris, Tracey, Tracey, Noreen and Judy celebrated their birthdays this month and were presented with a gift of chocolate from Secretary Nancy.

Our Guest speaker was Colin Pass from the Eurobodalla Photographic Club and he gave a very interested talk. Colin covered the best way to take photos using complementary colours, portraits, landscapes, animals, black and white and other ways and also tips on composition and colour setting. He used his own photos to explain each subject and it was very interesting and I am sure that we all learnt something and can now put the tips or ideas to use with our cameras or phones. Secretary Nancy presented Colin with a small gift of appreciation.

On Saturday our club was one of a number of stalls at Bunnings. We were selling cakes, biscuits and craft and it was a lovely day until the sudden downpour at 1.30.

2022 August

Our Guest speaker was Ian Aitken from the Rural Fire Service.  Ian spoke on the new Australian Fire Danger Rating System being introduced Australia wide on 1 September 2022.  It will be an improved and simplified system to make it easier for people to make decisions to stay safe on days of fire danger risk. The new ratings are Moderate – Plan and Prepare, High – Get Ready to Act, Extreme – Take Action Now, Catastrophic – Leave Bushfire Risk Areas.

Ian also spoke to the group about having Fire Plans and being ready for the coming season. Bush Fire Plans were handed out to the group. Vice-President Loretta thanked Ian for his presentation and presented him with a small gift of appreciation.

Earlier in the evening Vice-President Loretta presented Jenny with a long service badge. Jenny has been a member of View for 30 years and volunteered a lot of her time to our View Club over the years at meetings, fundraisers and other events and has held executive positions. Congratulations to Jenny for the number of years with our organisation and all your good work.

Vice President Loretta also presented a chocolate to Leslie Handley and Di Gee to celebrate their birthdays.

Anita presents Long Service Badges to Loretta and Nancy

2022 July

Members enjoyed a delicious meal before enjoying some fun with a trivia quiz and a handbag treasure hunt, and also the presentation of long service badges to two of our members.

Anita presented long service badges to Loretta Thornton and Nancy Carter.  Loretta has been a member of View for twenty years and Nancy Carter has been a member for ten years.  Both members have volunteered a lot of their time to our View Club over the years at meetings, fundraisers and other events. Both members have also held executive positions for a number of years.  Congratulations ladies and keep up the good work.

Vice President Loretta also presented a chocolate to Anita and Coral for their birthdays (photo below).

WIRES Presentation

Our Guest speaker was Janelle Renes from Wires. Wires (Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service) is Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organisation and Janelle gave us some history of the organisation in our area. Volunteers in our area cover the South Coast. It was very interesting listening to the work they do and especially the work that Janelle has been involved in. Janelle talked about so many different animals. Wires is always looking for volunteers or donations of lots of items to help in the care of the wildlife.  After the talk, President Julie presented Janelle with a small gift of appreciation.

Bunnings BBQ

In April we had a fundraiser with the BBQ at Bunnings, and this has provided a wonderful start to our fundraising for The Smith Family Learning for Life Program for 2022.

2022 April

Due to Easter it was a small meeting with a number of members away for the Easter break. Vice-President Loretta chaired the meeting and then everyone enjoyed their meal and little easter eggs left at each place setting by our View Club Easter Bunny, and Janice celebrated her birthday in April.  She was presented with a chocolate by Loretta.

2022 March

The March meeting of the Batemans Bay Evening View Club was the Annual General Meeting with a new committee elected for 2022.

Julie was sworn in as President. Other office bearers are Loretta (Vice-President), Anita (Secretary), Nancy (Treasurer), Leslie (Assistant Treasurer), Tracey (Delegate), Jenny (Program Officer), Julie (Welfare Officer) and Annette (Publicity Officer).

The new committee were presented with their committee badge by Loretta as our guest, Lyn Gerstenberg, representing our National Office was unable to attend due to the weather.   After the AGM we had our monthly general meeting. We are now supporting five students in the Smith Family Learning for Life Program.

After the formal part of the meeting a delicious meal was enjoyed by all.  After the meal we celebrated the birthday of members having a birthday in March. Di was presented with a chocolate gift by President Julie.

We are looking forward to another successful year with our new committee. New members are always welcome.
