2021 February

President Judith attended a round table discussion with minister for Women, Senator Marice Payne at Bega Civic Centre on 12th February. The discussion session was arranged so women from various organisations could discuss the problems faced in the Bega Valley.  Senator Paynes role was to take these problems back to the government.

Discussion and two questions put to Senator Marice Payne included

Outline of VIEW and the role of Bega evening VIEW, How VIEW addresses the educational needs of disadvantaged children

My first Question

  1. What can the Minister for Women, Senator Payne do, to assist in breaking the poverty cycle for Australian children, to ensure education is accessible to all, regardless of gender, race or financial situation?
  1. Discussed the urgency to respond to the needs of older Australians, waiting for Home Care Packages, particularly Level three and four; The unequable fee structure of private package managers.

My second question -I call on the Minister for Woman, Senator Payne, to use your voice strongly, to advocate for all older persons to be able to live their life with dignity and respect. This means the Government needs to stop playing politics and ensure the problems of over proliferation of Package Providers be regulated to;

1          keep their cost structure and services advertised in a manner that is truthful, easily understood, and able to be compared with other providers.

2          The Government make the present assessment of a daily fee for service redundant and replaced with a more equable and compassionate form of assessment.

Recipe Swap for Covid19

Smiles in July

A friend shared this...

These lockdowns are getting annoying and quite frankly I’ve had enough. I’ve discussed the matter over a cup of tea with the kitchen sink, and we both agree that the experience is draining.

I didn’t mention anything to the washing machine as she puts the wrong spin on everything.

Same with the fridge. He only gives cold shoulder. I asked the lamp, but she couldn’t shed any new light on the situation.

The vacuum cleaner was rather rude and told me to suck it up Princess. The threshold was no better, it suggested I get over it.

The carpet advised me to sweep my feelings under the rug. But the fan was more upbeat and thought that the crisis would soon blow over.

The toilet looked a bit flushed and didn’t offer an opinion.

The wall didn’t say a word either, just gave me a blank stare.

The doorknob was more forthcoming - told me to get a firm grip on the situation and move on.

The front door declared I was unhinged and so the curtains told me to.....you guessed it right - pull myself together.

Then the chair told me to table it, and the table remarked , I didn’t have a leg to stand on. When I told the table to break a leg, the mirror said that my comments reflected poorly on my thinking .

However, in the end, the iron set things straight . She said everything will be fine .

No situation is too pressing for long anyways.

Stay safe everyone

Local VIEW members attend VIEW’s 60th
Anniversary Diamond Jubilee event with NSW Governor

Members from Bega Evening VIEW Club, Carleen Maley and Pat McRae, both Past National Vice Presidents,  were delighted to join the NSW Governor and fellow VIEW members at a morning tea on 3 March to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its founding, at NSW Government House, Sydney.

In celebration of the significant milestone of VIEW’s 60th birthday, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, Governor of New South Wales praised past and present VIEW women on their contribution to changing the lives of children and young people over many years.

“It gives me great pleasure to celebrate this occasion with the dedicated women of VIEW. From its small beginnings in Balgowlah in Sydney’s north, VIEW has made an immense contribution to Australian society for six decades,” Ms Beazley said.

“Founded at a time of great social change in Australia, particularly for women, VIEW has constantly evolved to meet the changing needs of society, while never losing sight of its important objectives - to support women, The Smith Family and disadvantaged young people,” she said.

“I congratulate you all on your valuable contribution as fundraisers, sponsors, volunteers and advocates for The Smith Family. Enjoy your year of celebrations.”

The Governor's morning tea marked the start of celebrations across the country. VIEW members Carleen and Pat from Bega Evening VIEW Club joined VIEW National President 2020-21 Anne-Louise O’Connor, Head of State and Territory Operations, The Smith Family Leonie Green, and other representatives from The Smith Family at the Governor’s morning tea.

VIEW’s National President Anne-Louise O’Connor said she was proud to be leading the organisation in this milestone year.

Volunteer for Isolated Student Education

Sharyn Whiting gave a very interesting, moving, funny and at times sad talk on her experience as a volunteer teacher in the outback working for VISE.  Not only did Sharyn teach isolated children their school work but she has also been a jack of all trades, helping with the farm animals, house sitting homesteads when the family are away and cleaning whole houses after huge dust storms.  She is so involved with the children that she teaches she is almost their nanny.  These children, and their families, are and will remain, life long friends.
