Mothers Day Reminisce In May 2023
Members recently enjoyed a Chinese banquet followed by the official business meeting reports being tabled. Thanks to Ros, Charmaine, Lois and Gaye. We also welcome a new member Christine who joined us back in April.
Given Mother’s Day celebrations are eminent and in lieu of a guest speaker this month the ladies were invited to share a brief overview of their mother or a significant other who played an important role in their lives. Members shared stories and reflected on the highs and lows of motherhood. So often we learned the harsh reality of raising children in times of war, outdoor toilets down the back corner of a house yard and of no electricity and small often inadequate houses.
Despite these harsh times most women spoke of love and discipline within the family unit while growing up. These amazing stories of courage were well received by those in attendance. Thank you to those who shared very personal stories. Sandra invited her beautiful mother Betty, who was visiting Braidwood to come along for the evening. It was lovely to meet you, Betty.
While motherhood is one of the most challenging and rewarding roles without formal training or qualifications, the group all agreed it was a joy to watch our own children grow up and become productive young adults themselves.
A huge thank you goes to Gaye who gifted all who attended a small potted plant as a token to celebrate Mother’s Day. On behalf of Braidwood Evening VIEW club, I wish all mothers a happy Mother's Day this year. Congratulations to Charmian who won the lucky door prize this month.
If you would like to join us at Braidwood Evening VIEW, please come along to the Braidwood Serviceman’s Club on the first Thursday of the month. Our next meeting will be 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start on 1 June 2023.
