For the past 4 years members of the Brunswick Valley VIEW Club have been creating unique library bags and donating them to seven local primary schools in the Byron Shire. It is hoped to expand the programme to other schools and to continue to supply more bags to the incoming kindergarten classes every year. The aim is to encourage children to take care of the books and improve their literacy standards.
We are proud to announce that we have to date reached the milestone of making 1300 bags! It gives us great pleasure to be invited to the various school assemblies and to see the smiles and excitement on the kids faces. It also gives our president the opportunity to promote out club to potential members. One school invited members for a luncheon with food wholly picked, prepared, cooked and served by students.
In December some students will be entertaining us at our luncheon meeting so the programme is also excellent at forging greater awareness of VIEW clubs and our commitment to The Smith Family.
