Add to this the opportunity to work together to decorate our Smith Family Centenary Spectacles and you’ve got a great day out. We had a lovely time together, decorated more than forty spectacles, raised $124 for our Learning for Life kids with a raffle and went home with very full tummies and some extra goodies for supper.

 Welcome New Members

2022 June

We had a most enjoyable time at our June Luncheon Meeting. We welcomed two new members and presented them with their VIEW Club badges. Even though our guest speaker was unable to make it, we were fascinated to learn more about some of our club members. It was so interesting to hear about Mel's close connection to the Melbourne Cup. Not everyone can say they have actually been able to hold this auspicious cup, let alone take it to school for Show and Tell!!! A fabulous story with framed pictures for proof of Arwon winning the 1978 Melbourne Cup.

We also discovered that we have members in our club who were born in far flung places like Tasmania, England and South Africa. Only one member present today was born in Port Macquarie.

The collective wisdom and experience within our club is something we are learning more about each time we meet. We have hairdressers, clerks, finance experts, nurses, teachers, surveyors....and the list goes on.

Two of our members have discovered they were born in the same town, in the same hospital, lived and grew up just a couple of streets away from each other and never met until they moved to the Camden Haven and joined VIEW.

We look forward to learning more about each other. We all have amazing stories to tell and are connected in more ways than we realise.

Enjoying Long Point Vineyard

2022 June Outing

A few of our Members braved the threat of wintry weather and had a lovely time at Long Point Vineyards and Art Gallery on June 2.

The rain stayed away, there was no wind and the sun was shining most of the time. Seated around the large picnic table we had fun sharing food and wine and lots of laughs. After our leisurely lunch we ventured inside for the wine tasting and to check out the beautiful artwork on display.

Then of course we needed to return to our picnic table to have some coffee and cake.

We always enjoy and appreciate the wonderful opportunities our VIEW club provides for us to connect and build friendships.

2022 May Luncheon

At our May Luncheon Meeting today we were privileged to hear from Karen and Janette from Aussie Battlers in Laurieton. These inspirational ladies are doing so much to help people in our local community who are doing it tough at the moment. They have recently opened a shop in Laurieton to help raise money, and to provide items at a more affordable price for those in need.

It was confronting to hear that there are so many homeless people in our community, and that many are sleeping in cars, tents, even in a caravan with no windows! Families are unable to live together and many need help with basic needs. There are many still needing help following the devastating floods that swept through Laurieton last year.

These wonderful ladies are doing their best to help anyone who needs help in any way they can. Not only do they organise food hampers, clothing, furniture and other items. They mow lawns, provide support to those needing help to complete applications on line and sometimes simply provide a listening ear.

We can support by donating goods to their shop in Bold Street, volunteering to help in their shop or by talking to them about what is needed that we may be able to help with.

Visit to Ricardoes Tomatoes and Strawberry Farm

2022 May

On May 2, several members of our club along with some of our husbands and friends had a delightful time at Ricardoes Tomatoes and Strawberry Farm in Port Macquarie. We found the tour with the owner very informative, and it was interesting to see how they grow and care for their famous tomatoes.

The "Best scones in the world" didn't disappoint, and several of us enjoyed a delicious lunch as well. Most of us headed home with fresh ripe tomatoes, tomato plants, strawberries, jams, relish and other goodies from their shop.

It was lovely to spend some time together in such pleasant surroundings and to support another of Port Macquarie’s local businesses. We also took the opportunity to pose for a pic with 'Berry Beautiful' koala on the way out.

2022 March

Strawberries and Tomatoes

We were privileged to have Anthony Sarks from Ricardoes Tomatoes and Strawberry Farm as our guest speaker for our March luncheon meeting. He shared how their business has grown from an honesty box stall at the front gate 21 years ago.

Today they produce tomatoes and strawberries and associated products such as jam, relish and soup. Their tomatoes and strawberries travel no further north than Coffs Harbour and only as far south to Foster to ensure they are picked ripe and delivered fresh.

They also have a cafe serving delicious scones and offer tours of their property.  We are planning a visit there with our VIEW club members soon.

International Women's Day

2022 March

Members enjoyed a wonderful morning celebrating International Women's Day at Laurieton United Services Club in March. Our Zone Counsellor, Barbara Gaylard, spoke about the history and significance of International Women's Day and introduced special Guest Speaker, Phyllis Hollis, who is the 2021 Senior Citizen of the Year for the Port Macquarie Hastings Region.

Phyllis shared her many experiences of helping and supporting the farmers in our region as they have battled drought, bushfires and floods in recent years. The personal anecdotes and the trials our farmers have endured over the past three years were heart wrenching. The resilience they demonstrated was inspiring, and it was so good to hear how Phyllis has been able to facilitate access to the necessary items they need, as well as supporting these people in practical ways.

There are so many people still struggling, and it was heart warming to hear how there are also many others working behind the scenes to help.

We all felt very privileged to be able to spend some time together talking and sharing as we enjoyed some very tasty treats.

Christmas is Near

Olga and Joan, cutting our Christmas cake

2021 December

It was wonderful to enjoy a fun time together at our final event for the year. Members and guests enjoyed a lovely Christmas meal, while receiving and swapping gifts, as well as raising money for Learning for Life students through our special Christmas raffles and being entertained by some wonderful tap dancing.

The Laurieton Residential Resort Tappers

2021 November

We were privileged to have Tin Tanu as our guest speaker for the November luncheon meeting, who is a well educated and inspirational lady from Myanmar who has now made her home in Australia.

Tin shared the importance of the three phases of life - to Learn, to Earn and then to Redistribute what has been learnt and earned within your community.

Tin is currently sharing all she has learnt, along with what she earns from the produce she and her husband are growing on their property in Kendall, with her community.  Tin also uses the money she raises from her various endeavours to fund a school she established in Myanmar to ensure disadvantaged children have access to a good education.

Tin is a beautiful, hardworking, engaging and inspirational woman.

In the Rainforest

2021 October Outing

Several of our members and friends enjoyed October's social outing, which was a visit to Sea Acres in Port Macquarie, including a lovely walk around the Rainforest Boardwalk.

Following the walk it was time to relax with a delicious lunch in the Rainforest Cafe. It was so good to be out and about, and to have the opportunity to spend time together enjoying nature and building friendships.

2021 September Outing

A few members had a delightful lunch at the Bonny's Beach Cafe in September. We had planned a picnic but the weather was too cool and unpredictable so the decision was made to move indoors.

It was nice to have some partners join us for an enjoyable day with good food, great coffee and even better company.

2021 September

Happy Birthday To Us!!!

Members enjoyed a lovely time celebrating our 29th Birthday at our Luncheon Meeting on September 20. It was so good to meet together again after our latest period of lock down.

Our theme of Fans & Fascinators made a lovely excuse to dress up and the decorated tables looked so pretty.

Lots of prizes were won from our lucky door, raffles and 100 club raising money for our Learning for Life students.

We officially welcomed a new member, and three of our members were acknowledged for 10, 20 and 40 years of service with VIEW. Anne, who has been with VIEW for 40 years shared some of her experiences and highlights with us and was given the honour of cutting our birthday cake.

Our guest speaker was Kaye Plentinger. She inspired us as she shared her passion for dance and how this passion has filled her life with some wonderful experiences. Kaye continues to share her joy and her talent as she teaches people in her community how to tap dance.

29th Birthday Celebrations

2021 Christmas In July

Our Camden Haven Day VIEW Club had a great time celebrating Christmas in July at Club North Haven on July 26.

We all enjoyed a scrumptious roast dinner, some Christmas pudding, a couple of Christmas games with presents for everyone, and lots of fun and laughter. We also had a raffle to raise more funds for our Learning for Life students.

Presents for Everyone

2021 July

The Guest Speaker for our July meeting was Aged Crime Prevention Officer for the mid north coast, Senior Constable Ruth Handley.

Ruth shared some important information about how we can improve our personal safety at home as well as in the community. We also learnt how to recognise scams and the importance of sharing any scam experiences to help prevent others from being misled as well.

We all received a copy of The Little Black Book of Scams which is a pocket book guide on how to spot, avoid and protect yourself against scams

2021 June Luncheon

Margret Meagher, the Project Director of Hello Koalas, was the guest speaker at our June Luncheon meeting. It was very interesting to hear the story behind all the beautiful koala sculptures we see around Port Macquarie, and also to learn that soon we will have a Big Koala!

New Member Welcomed

Camden Haven Day VIEW Club welcomed new member Maureen to our club at our June luncheon meeting. It is exciting to see our club growing with several new members joining us already this year.

May 2021 Movie and Lunch

On May 28 we watched June Again at the beautiful historic Laurieton Plaza Theatre. Following this members enjoyed lunch together at the Village Cafe in Laurieton.

Our club believes in supporting local businesses whenever we can. This outing to the theatre and lunch had been planned for March, but unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the floods, which had a devastating impact on our Camden Haven Community.

It is wonderful to have this lovely cafe up and running again, and we all enjoyed the delicious food and delightful company. Members also enjoyed some birthday cake to celebrate our hard working secretary, Helen.

Cruising down the Hastings River

On April 29 members enjoyed a lovely day out cruising on the beautiful Hasting River. We enjoyed a relaxing time together getting to know each other a little better.

It was very interesting to see where the floods had impacted our beautiful city of Port Macquarie, and good to see how most areas have been cleaned up already.

International Womens Day 2021

Looking pretty in purple, fifteen ladies from our Camden Have Day VIEW club attended an International Women’s Day Lunch at the Golden Inn in Laurieton on March 2. The food was delicious and the company delightful. We raised $64 towards the sponsorship of our Learning for Life students through a raffle. We all had a most enjoyable time together.

We chose to wear purple because purple is the colour of loyalty, constancy to purpose, and unswerving steadfastness to a cause. It is also the colour of dignity and self-respect and signifies bipartisanship.

We wanted to remind ourselves that International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate women’s achievements and to consider how we can make a difference by raising awareness, influencing behaviour, reinforcing commitment, and challenging ourselves and others to make our world a better place - particularly for women, and for the disadvantaged children we sponsor through the Smith Family’s Learning for Life Thank you
