Entertaining Member
Guest Speaker and new member Jackie with Ass Secretary Mel
2023 March
One of our newest members was the Guest Speaker at our March Luncheon Meeting. Jackie is a writer and she shared some of her brilliant and funny poems. We were well entertained and enjoyed our time together.
We had four new members join today, and our Club Delegate, Dianne, was sworn in and presented with her badge as she was unable to attend our AGM last month.
Past ZC Carmel presents Dianne with her Delegate's badge.
International Women’s Day
Our club hosted a morning tea to celebrate International Women’s Day during March, 2023.
Fifty-one ladies attend, including many of our own club members and friends as well as some from Port Macquarie Day and Kempsey VIEW Clubs. National Councillor, Dianne, spoke to us about VIEW and why we celebrate IWD in acknowledgement of the great contribution women make to society.
Guest Speaker, Judith, shared her experiences as a prison officer in the Alexander Maconochie Centre in Canberra. She told us how she came to be working in that role, the training and qualifications required as well as what her job involved. As you can imagine it takes a special kind of person to work with prisoners. Judy explained how being a woman actually helped her achieve positive results as she worked with and for the men in custody. A woman brings a unique skillset and is able to gain the trust and cooperation of men by treating them with respect, demonstrating kindness and a good sense of humour.
Following our speakers, we were treated to an incredible array of delicious treats for our morning tea.
The General Manager of LUSC popped in to wish us a Happy International Women's Day and to give out two bottles of wine as lucky door prizes. We are so grateful for the great service and support our club is privileged to receive from LUSC.

Celebrating Christmas
2022 December
In December our club had an Aussie themed Christmas party. We enjoyed a fun time together over lunch and playing some Christmas games together. Our gift exchange game was a lot of fun as always, with a set of candles changing hands several times and a beautiful scarf was another gift that was popular.
Our lovely President Bev was unable to be with us on the day, but she did an outstanding job of making and decorating our Christmas cake and making party favours for everyone. One of our long serving members who has been unwell this year was able to come though and did the honour of cutting the cake for us.
We had lots of lovely raffle prizes which helped to raise more money for The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program.
Planning in November 2022
At our November Luncheon Meeting we welcomed another new member. Collen was presented with her badge by our Zone Counsellor, Barbara.
Our Guest Speaker was Mel from Mid Coast Community Legal Services. She shared some very helpful information about planning ahead. This included how we can access legal support, details about Powers of Attorney and Enduring Guardianship.
New Members Welcomed
At our October Luncheon Meeting, Vice President Lesley presented three new members - Trudi, Judy and Sandi - with their badges, and we welcomed them into our club.
2022 October
Our Guest Speaker, Michelle Drummond, from Home Instead presented a very helpful guide as to how we can begin the process to access care in our own home. Her advice was to be proactive and plan ahead. Home Instead provides a variety of services with a focus on taking a more personal approach to ensure social and emotional needs are addressed as well as the physical.
Spring Is Here
2022 Fashion Parade
Recently our Club held a Fashion Parade and High Tea at Laurieton, United Services Club. It was a wonderful success with ninety-three ladies attending, enabling us to raise much needed funds through ticket sales and raffles.
Thankyou to everyone who was able to come and support us. Special thanks to Judy from JA Fashions, and Katherine from Laurieton Shoes and Bowls for providing quality clothing and shoes to display as well as discount vouchers for those attending.
The money raised from this event will help disadvantaged young people gain access to resources they need to ensure they receive the quality education they deserve through the Smith Family Learning for Life program.
2022 September Meeting
At our September Luncheon Meeting we welcomed another new member. Leonie was presented with her name badge.
Our guest speaker was Megan Philippa from The Nook Cafe in North Haven. Megan shared the highs and lows of her career in hospitality and event management, where she had the opportunity to work with some very interesting people and met several famous entertainers. Her talk was very interesting and inspiring. Megan is to be congratulated for her resilience and determination as she has faced challenges as a woman managing her own business, particularly as she opened up her Cafe during Covid.

30th Birthday Celebrations
2022 August
Members had a wonderful time celebrating their 30th Birthday in August. With the theme of Pearls and the colour green, it was great to see so many dressed in green and wearing their pearls.
Sixty ladies enjoyed the festivities and many went home with either a lucky door prize, raffle prize, $s from the 100's club or some bling from from our trade table of costume jewellery. Everyone went home with some lolly bags, birthday cake, full tummies and the lovely memories of a fun time spent with friends and the delightful sound of Laurieton Primary School students' singing in our ears.
Our Zone Counsellor, Barbara Gaylard, spoke to us about our purpose and how much our VIEW Clubs are helping raise awareness of what The Smith Family is doing to support disadvantaged children in education, and raising money to sponsor needy students.
Two more new members were presented with their VIEW Club badges, and several of our members were presented with pins to acknowledge their membership for 20 and 30 years.
Olga and Elaine, who have both been members of our club since its beginning cut our birthday cake for us.
Gala Centenary Celebrations in 2022
It was a privilege for our Camden Haven Day VIEW Club to host the Gala Centenary Celebration of The Smith Family at Laurieton United Services Club on Saturday, July 30. We had a wonderful time celebrating 100 Years of The Smith Family along with other VIEW Clubs in our region.
Mayor Peta Pinson officially opened the event. Our guest speakers included Hon. Leslie Williams MP, Member for Port Macquarie; Elizabeth Birch, National Vice President of VIEW Clubs of Australia; Christine George, Chief District Inspector of Manning Great Lakes Police Department; The Hon. Dr David Gillespie MP, Member for Lyne; and Judith Hemmingway, National Councillor Advisor, VIEW Clubs of Australia.
Entertainment provided by the Junior and Senior Drumline groups from St Joseph and Mackillop Colleges as well as the Laurieton Resort Tappers was fantastic.
We had over 40 of our own club members at this grand occasion of 180 attendees.
Here we all are posing with our Spectacular Centenary Spectacles!
Angels from Angel Flight
We were fortunate to have Dr Alan Thorogood and his wife Vicki from Angel Flight as our guest speakers. Vicki piloted their own plane today, landing at Camden Haven airfield.
Dr Thorogood is pictured here with our Assistant Secretary, Mel. It was interesting to hear about the workings of Angel Flight, which is a totally voluntary organisation transferring patients for treatment from country areas to city hospitals.
New Members Welcomed In July 2022
Members welcomed four new members to our club at our July Meeting, and Zone Counsellor Barbara, presented Sandi, Valerie, Kris and Tina with their membership badges.
Christmas In July 2022
A few Members, and one almost two year old, recently felt the festive spirit at Kendall Community Centre for a Christmas in July Morning Tea. A lovely hot cuppa and so many delicious home made goodies to choose from made this outing a special treat!
Our hosts at the Community Centre were most attentive and made sure we all won a prize for either our Christmas costumes or our ability to answer Christmas themed trivia questions.
2022 Spectacles
The 'creative juices' are flowing
With Damper, Soup and Slice
What better way to spend a winter’s day than getting together with our VIEW Club family to eat yummy soup, damper and delicious cakes and slices!!
Add to this the opportunity to work together to decorate our Smith Family Centenary Spectacles and you’ve got a great day out. We had a lovely time together, decorated more than forty spectacles, raised $124 for our Learning for Life kids with a raffle and went home with very full tummies and some extra goodies for supper.
Welcome New Members
2022 June
We had a most enjoyable time at our June Luncheon Meeting. We welcomed two new members and presented them with their VIEW Club badges. Even though our guest speaker was unable to make it, we were fascinated to learn more about some of our club members. It was so interesting to hear about Mel's close connection to the Melbourne Cup. Not everyone can say they have actually been able to hold this auspicious cup, let alone take it to school for Show and Tell!!! A fabulous story with framed pictures for proof of Arwon winning the 1978 Melbourne Cup.
We also discovered that we have members in our club who were born in far flung places like Tasmania, England and South Africa. Only one member present today was born in Port Macquarie.
The collective wisdom and experience within our club is something we are learning more about each time we meet. We have hairdressers, clerks, finance experts, nurses, teachers, surveyors....and the list goes on.
Two of our members have discovered they were born in the same town, in the same hospital, lived and grew up just a couple of streets away from each other and never met until they moved to the Camden Haven and joined VIEW.
We look forward to learning more about each other. We all have amazing stories to tell and are connected in more ways than we realise.
Enjoying Long Point Vineyard
2022 June Outing
A few of our Members braved the threat of wintry weather and had a lovely time at Long Point Vineyards and Art Gallery on June 2.
The rain stayed away, there was no wind and the sun was shining most of the time. Seated around the large picnic table we had fun sharing food and wine and lots of laughs. After our leisurely lunch we ventured inside for the wine tasting and to check out the beautiful artwork on display.
Then of course we needed to return to our picnic table to have some coffee and cake.
We always enjoy and appreciate the wonderful opportunities our VIEW club provides for us to connect and build friendships.
2022 May Luncheon
At our May Luncheon Meeting today we were privileged to hear from Karen and Janette from Aussie Battlers in Laurieton. These inspirational ladies are doing so much to help people in our local community who are doing it tough at the moment. They have recently opened a shop in Laurieton to help raise money, and to provide items at a more affordable price for those in need.
It was confronting to hear that there are so many homeless people in our community, and that many are sleeping in cars, tents, even in a caravan with no windows! Families are unable to live together and many need help with basic needs. There are many still needing help following the devastating floods that swept through Laurieton last year.
These wonderful ladies are doing their best to help anyone who needs help in any way they can. Not only do they organise food hampers, clothing, furniture and other items. They mow lawns, provide support to those needing help to complete applications on line and sometimes simply provide a listening ear.
We can support by donating goods to their shop in Bold Street, volunteering to help in their shop or by talking to them about what is needed that we may be able to help with.
Visit to Ricardoes Tomatoes and Strawberry Farm
2022 May
On May 2, several members of our club along with some of our husbands and friends had a delightful time at Ricardoes Tomatoes and Strawberry Farm in Port Macquarie. We found the tour with the owner very informative, and it was interesting to see how they grow and care for their famous tomatoes.
The "Best scones in the world" didn't disappoint, and several of us enjoyed a delicious lunch as well. Most of us headed home with fresh ripe tomatoes, tomato plants, strawberries, jams, relish and other goodies from their shop.
It was lovely to spend some time together in such pleasant surroundings and to support another of Port Macquarie’s local businesses. We also took the opportunity to pose for a pic with 'Berry Beautiful' koala on the way out.
2022 March
Strawberries and Tomatoes
We were privileged to have Anthony Sarks from Ricardoes Tomatoes and Strawberry Farm as our guest speaker for our March luncheon meeting. He shared how their business has grown from an honesty box stall at the front gate 21 years ago.
Today they produce tomatoes and strawberries and associated products such as jam, relish and soup. Their tomatoes and strawberries travel no further north than Coffs Harbour and only as far south to Foster to ensure they are picked ripe and delivered fresh.
They also have a cafe serving delicious scones and offer tours of their property. We are planning a visit there with our VIEW club members soon.
