2018 Glen Innes Celebrates Half a Century

The Glen Innes VIEW Club is celebrating its half century and it did so formally on Thursday, 21 June, with a lunch at the Services Club.

Ladies from Glen Innes were joined by visitors from Tamworth and Inverell.

VIEW stands for Voice, Interests and Education of Women and the celebration was, as you would expect, all women apart from mayor, Steve Toms, who expressed his good wishes to the club.

VIEW describes itself as “a leading women's national volunteer organisation, providing the opportunity for women from all walks of life to meet regularly, establish lasting friendships and help disadvantaged Australian children through supporting the work of children’s charity, The Smith Family (a charity which concentrates on helping poor children through education).”

VIEW is also about women networking. It “empowers women to have their voices on issues of importance for the future well being of Australian society.”

There are more than 300 VIEW clubs around Australia, including one in Glen Innes for exactly fifty years.

GLEN INNES CELEBRATES ANOTHER BIRTHDAY

The members of Glen Innes VIEW Club got together recently to celebrate another birthday and the start of their 50th year. They were joined by members of the local CWA as well as VIEW members from Inverell.

At the meeting the scrapbook belonging to June Hadley, Inaugural President, was tabled and the newspaper item about the inaugural meeting of the club in 1968 was read. It was the largest Inaugural meeting of any VIEW Club at the time with 160 people at the dinner-meeting.

The chairs were tied in bright sashes in keeping with the rainbow theme with many members dressed appropriately. After lunch members and visitors were serenaded by Shane Tenaki. A great beginning to the club’s 50th year.

Christmas Party

Glen Innes VIEW Club celebrated their Christmas party at the final meeting of the year in very festive spirits.

They were joined on the day by a contingent of members from Inverell Club who participated in the fun. There was an auction conducted at each table for a mystery box of Christmas goods, which was keenly competed for. After a delicious turkey dinner members were serenaded with familiar pop songs from the 50s and 60s which had many members singing along.

All good things come to an end and the party eventually wound up. The next meeting of the club will be on 9th February at 10.30 am for 11.00 am

VIEW’s 60th Anniversary commemorative Tea Towel with its retro design in our purple & teal colours, was inspired by one the first VIEW brochures developed in the 60’s. The Tea Towel also represented a collection of women from various eras reminiscent of the graphics of dress making patterns.
