2023 February
On Thursday February 2, 2023, Nelson Bay VIEW Club held their Annual General Meeting with fifty five members attending including a few prospective members.
The club currently has sixty eight members and support ten Learning for Life students with lots of fund raising events planned throughout the year.
Bunnings BBQ's and Members Dedication Saves Our LfL Students
Like all VIEW clubs, Nelson Bay has been unable to hold any social functions over the past 2 years which has had dire consequences for fund raising.
In 2020 our members generously made donations to enable us to provide for the ten students we support under the Learning for Life Program.
In 2021 we approached Bunnings and were fortunate to be able to secure several bookings for BBQs throughout the year. Our Treasurer, Karen, ably assisted by Vice President, Liz, has been the driving force behind the operation of these BBQs which have been very successful.
Last year the required funds were raised and the VIEW members who volunteered have many tales to tell of the trials and tribulations of working on the front line at a Bunnings BBQ. On one occasion half the marquee was blown away while on another an early shutdown was forced by torrential rain.

We are holding a Fathers' Day raffle at Salamander Centre on Saturday 21st August; so if you are in the area, please come and see us on the day.
Service Pin Presentations for August
At the August meeting of Nelson Bay VIEW Club a record 11 members were presented with service pins as indicated below.
20 Years: Gloria Barratt, Jeanne Dowson, Anne Munn, Jan Rawlings and Alison Warran
10 Years: Carol Buckingham, Sharon Gorman, Narelle Hughes, Chris Ledingham, Bev Lye and Margaret Scrogie
National Councillor, Anne-Louise O’Connor, was our guest at the luncheon and presented the pins to the members. Anne-Louise commented that she has never before presented so many pins to a VIEW club in one year.
April Royal Baby Shower
Nelson Bay VIEW Club held a Royal Baby Shower to celebrate the impending arrival of the new royal baby. Over 100 VIEW members and guests welcomed HRH Queen Elizabeth resplendent in a striking gold dress with regal red sash and accompanied by her favourite Corgi. Guest of Honour, Meghan, wore a simple white dress and mingled with local guests and other members of the royal family in attendance including Kate and Pippa; and Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice. Camilla wore an elegant red outfit while Fergie could not be missed with her flowing red tresses. Even Theresa May found time to leave her Brexit negotiations to join us. All were bedazzled by the sparkling display of Tiaras and gemstones.
On arrival, guests were treated to a glass of Champagne and Canapes then shown to their allotted tables where they enjoyed an assorted array of tasty sandwiches.
Events Coordinator, Lorraine Nicol, introduced all members of the royal family and invited all to relax and enjoy the entertainment.
Kylie Minogue (Jenni Rossi,) Julie Andrews (Janelle Riorden), Capt. Von Trapp (John Vodopia) plus pianist, David Naylor and vocalist, P.G.Willis gave a fantastic performance of popular lyrics. The classical duet sung by Jenni Rossi and John Vodopia was truly outstanding.
Following the concert a delicious selection of cakes was served with tea and coffee and the raffle was drawn.
Nelson Bay VIEW club thanks everyone who donated their time, their talents or raffle prizes and thereby contributed to the success of the afternoon. The money raised will assist our Club in supporting the 10 children we sponsor through The Smith Family “Learning for Life” program.
