Austria to Australia

2022 September
At our September meeting members listened to our guest speaker, Susanne Shipton, who told of her grandmother's journey from Austria to Australia in the late 1800's. Susanne brought along a collection of the aprons and other exquisitely embroidered items that have been handed down from her grandmother to her, to display.
Members enjoyed Susanne's talk and could only be impressed with the struggles of a woman who endured so much over a 100 years ago.

Birthday Celebrations 60 Years + 1
2022 July
At the 20th July meeting Sylvania VIEW Club celebrated its 61st birthday with 40 members and visitors attending the Hammond Grove Function Room, Miranda. Unfortunately, five members who had planned to attend were unable to do so because of COVID 19 issues, and we look forward to seeing them at next month’s meeting.
We welcomed members from Galston VIEW Club, Lugarno VIEW Club, and Caringbah VIEW Club, who came along to help us celebrate the occasion. As usual, the tombola was a happy way to fundraise for The Smith Family, and Sylvania VIEW Club's three LfL students.
The ever-popular Tony Mazell returned to entertain us with jokes and songs spanning 61 years. We enjoyed a two-course lunch, with each member receiving a cupcake decorated in purple and green, and an embossed commemorative pen. We hope everyone had a good time.
President Dinah presented Sue and Betty with their 20-year badges, and (right) Julie with her 10-year badge.
60th Birthday Celebrations On Hold in 2021
Sylvania VIEW Club was to celebrate its 60th anniversary on Wednesday, 21 July. We were looking forward to welcoming Jo Gray, National Vice President, to celebrate with us. Owing to the Greater Sydney COVID-19 lockdown, the cake, the champagne and the entertainment will have to be put on hold.
It would have been lovely to upload pictures of our birthday party with all our past and present members who were coming. However, our tentative plans are that we will get together for our birthday party at our 15 September meeting; hopefully when the lockdown ends we look forward to getting on with life as normally as possible.
Here’s Cheers to 60 years!
