The NM02 Zone had its Conference in April for members of the Coffs Harbour and Bonville to Woolgoolga region.

Members from the six clubs in the Zone met in the beautiful and spacious surroundings of the Bonville International Golf Club to focus on friendship and connecting with each other, as well as finding innovative ways to expand our membership.

Over a three day exercise in preparation for the Conference, many members volunteered their time to sell raffle tickets at a local shopping centre.  The raffle prizes were generously donated by local businesses and included a diverse range of goods from a Kindle e-reader to a cheese making kit.

Craftier members made and decorated gift boxes for each participant to take home, with treats such as soaps and sweets and ‘fridge magnets which were also hand-made by members.  Our Zone Conference was truly a joint effort which helped make the day a success.

We were joined by National Councillor, Cecilia Bayliss, and Zone Councillor from our neighbouring Zone NM01, Helen Duff.  Cecilia very kindly presented Decade pins to four of our members.  The recipients were Margaret Reid and June Graham who each received their 10 Year pin and Bev Burling and Kay Backman, each receiving their 20 Year pin.

The discussion was lively with an agreement that we need to raise our profile in the community.  Several suggestions were offered and already our usual publicity methods have been extended, with news of clubs’ activities published in Senior’s newspaper, which has extended its circulation to our area.  We also plan to advertise our clubs at the local Tourist Information Centres and public libraries, use Facebook, invite teachers, U3A and church groups, etc to meetings.  We have approached our City Council with regard to an on-line directory for service clubs.  A “Walk with VIEW” event is also on the cards.

All in all, great venue, great lunch, very good company, fun, laughter and keen interest added up to a successful Zone Conference.
