September 2021—QB01 Fiesta

WOW, what a day we enjoyed recently our QB01 Zone Friendship Fiesta held at the Bribie Island RSL. Our own Bribie Island VIEW Club organised it on behalf of the Zone and National Councillors where just over 100 women enjoyed catching up with other members from nine different VIEW Clubs from the Sunshine Coast. Many thanks to Courtney and her team at the RSL for making the function such a success.

Much needed funds were raised on the day with a raffle, the prizes beautiful potted plants provided by the clubs themselves. To round out the day we were kept in fits of laughter by talented local performer Sue Wighton with several of her own compositions.

During the function, as part of The Smith Family (TSF) & VIEW Clubs of Australia one of QLD Learning For Life students, Hannah responded to questions posed by Alan Le May, General Manager QLD, The Smith Family.

Hannah disclosed that she had many siblings so her home life was a little chaotic and faced many challenges as a child as her mother was unable to assist due to her own mental health issues. Hannah loved primary school and made reasonable progress with the assistance of her teachers.

However, life at secondary school was a totally different situation where she was confronted with constant bullying on a daily basis which made it necessary to leave school at the end of grade 10. She did have hopes and dreams of becoming a nurse, but without the necessary pre-requisite (Year 12 completion ) she knew that this would be a challenge.

So, Hannah became a volunteer at Headspace where she was able to relate well with many of the clients due to her own personal experiences. Still determined to follow her dream she was eventually, with the assistance of a scholarship provided by the Mater Hospital in conjunction with TSF able to enroll in a pre-nursing program, completion of this this year will allow her entry into a Bachelor of Nursing at QUT.

Her ultimate goal is to become a Doctor of Medicine. A very inspiring young woman who despite the many challenges she faced as a child is determine to succeed and give back to the community which has supported her.
