Maroochydore VIEW Club was formed in 2001. Currently, the Club sponsors 10 Smith Family Learning for Life students and is actively involved in fundraising activities to raise donations for The Smith Family programs. Maroochydore VIEW Club members share fun and friendship over a beautiful lunch. A variety of informative and interesting guest speakers entertain and inspire us at our meetings. At each lunch there are raffle and lucky door prizes, as well as a book stall.
Each month we also enjoy a social outing. These social occasions are a great way to make friends, particularly if you are new to the Sunshine Coast. We also have a monthly coffee morning and two bookclubs.
A highlight of each year is our Walk With a VIEW, through which we raise funds for the Learning for Life program through obtaining sponsors.
Why don’t you come along and see what our VIEW Club is all about? We always look forward to welcoming new members. Visit our Facebook page.
- Meeting Day is the 4th Friday each month.
- 11 am for 11.30 am

Making a Difference Award—Jan Fenton
Congratulations to Jan Fenton, who received a ‘Making A Difference’ Award from View Clubs of Australia at our May 2021 meeting.
Jan has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to our club, View and The Smith family. Jan has been a driving force in fundraising activities, from assisting with the collection of stationery for the Learning for Life stationery drive, and coordinating Bunnings sausage sizzles to making her famous preserves for every luncheon. This has enabled our club to increase our number of Learning for Life students to 10.
Jan’s name will be added to honour roll at the National Convention in Adelaide this September.
Thank you, Jan, for your commitment and dedication to View and the education of disadvantaged children.

Bub Herron—The Most Inspiring Woman in My Life by Jan Fenton (February 2021)
I met the most inspiring woman I have ever known when we both moved to the Sunshine Coast at about the same time.
Dorothy was born in the small town of Coolamon in rural New South Wales and was brought up by her mother and family members. She started training as a nurse in Sydney, but didn't like either it or the bright lights, so returned to Coolamon and worked in the local hardware store.
She met and married a young bank officer, Keith Herron, so moved to Canbberra and Tumut, having three boys along the way. In Tumut the boys went to swimming club, which badly needed a swimming coach. Not daunted by the fact she could not swim, up went Dorothy's hand. When Meals on Wheels needed help, that hand went up again. VIEW Club came to town. Wow, she was in her element. She could get all dolled up, go out for lunch and do good work for The Smith Family. Soon she was putting her hand up for any committee position that came up, and ultimately went on to serve as zone councillor, national councillor and national vice-president.
Yes, this was our very own, the late Bub Herron—a remarkable woman with a passion for VIEW, who maintained her commitment for the rest of her life.
In Tumut she was awarded “Senior Citizen of the Year”. Keith died in 2004, so Bub followed a son to the Sunshine Coast in 2005. Fortunately for us, Bub joined Maroochydore VIEW Club. Bub attended every VIEW convention held, sadly just missing the 2019 convention that was held on the Sunshine Coast. She also attended other clubs' birthday celebrations, gala lunches, etc. She proudly wore her VIEW ribbon bedecked with badges of office, years of service and conventions pins. She was called on to present new members with their badges with words of welcome and enthusiasm for The Smith Family Learning for Life program.
Fellow member and friend Gwen Gould called her “Mrs VIEW Club”. I think she was “The Matriarch of VIEW”, having been a member for 46½ years.
Bub travelled in later years and once said, “That little girl from Coolamon, if only they could see her now.” Well, that little girl from Coolamon made such a difference to the lives of so many through The Smith Family. This club and its members are fortunate to have had such an inspiring woman in our midst and I am honoured to have known her.

Maroochydore VIEW Club stepped out in style, with umbrellas and ponchos, to walk our wettest Walk With A View in history. We were joined members from the Buderim and Kawana Waters Clubs. The walk started at Alex Headland SLSC along a beautiful stretch of beach and back, where the walkers were treated to scones with jam and cream, kindly sponsored by the Alex Headland SLSC.
The first Walk with A View was held in 2004 as an initiative of the Maroochydore View Club to raise funds for The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program to assist in the education of disadvantaged children. In 2010 it became a national event for all View Clubs so clubs all over Australia walk in their local areas to raise funds for this great cause.
