The Southern Vales VIEW Club was formed on 9th June 2006. The VIEW women have great fun socialising whilst committed to providing educational opportunities for disadvantaged children in the southern region by sponsoring three children from Reception to Year 12, through community fund raising, including Bunnings BBQs, raffles, and special events.
We hold monthly lunch meetings, with interesting guest speakers. Members enjoy regular outings to places of interest, visiting other VIEW Clubs in the South, the annual Gala Day and International Women’s Day, also monthly coffee mornings, Mahjong and a Book Club.

President Vera Nankivell presented Katrina with a certificate of appreciation
Our very special guest speaker for July was Katrina Lea Webb-Denis, OAM, an Australian Paralympic athlete with cerebral palsy. She has won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in athletics at three Paralympic Games. Today, Katrina's running career is in the past, but her passion for helping others perform at their best continues to be her greatest inspiration. Katrina is the founding Director of Silver 2 Gold High-Performance Solutions, and as a professional speaker she has impressed audiences at an International level. This includes speaking at the United Nations International Year of Sport in New York 2006.
Due to her own experience in dealing with a disability and a desire to help others, Katrina is a passionate humanitarian. She currently organises leadership treks to Nepal including Everest Base camp, raising funds for the health, education and protection of children in Nepal.
New committee for 2017 were inducted by Zone Councillor SA01 Marlene Powell at our AGM on 10th February

Southern Vale VIEW IWD Function at VIctor Harbor
Members attended a VIEW International Women's Day function at Club Marion, honouring women around the world.
The guest speaker was The Hon. Margaret Nyland, AM, who was only the second woman to be appointed to the Supreme Court of South Australia and in 2014 was appointed Commissioner to the Child Protection Systems Royal Commission (SA).
Margaret was born into a family which was keenly aware of the power of education to change society. Her father was self-educated and a prominent trade unionist who was awarded an Order of Australia for his services to trade unionism. Margaret benefited from being surrounded by strong, high achieving women beginning with her teachers at Gilles Street Primary and later at Adelaide Girls' High School.
The second speaker was Nan Witcom, the well known radio presenter, author and raconteur who kept us amused with her stories of growing up and varied career. Nan's book of poems 'The Thoughts of Nanuska' is well loved around the world and her book 'Up Here & Down There' covers her time as an air hostess for ANA.
Other members attended a breakfast IWD celebration hosted by the Victor Harbor View Club where again there were inspirational women speakers. A wonderful way to celebrate women of all ages and nationalities.

2017 March Meeting
Southern Values VIEW Club Guest Speaker– AINSLIE ROSCROW Members enjoyed our very interesting Speaker for the March Meeting, Ainslie Roscrow, a Montessori-trained teacher, who raises funds to support the education of lowest caste children in Nepal.
Ainslie visited the area in 2014 a year before the devastating earthquake which struck the area on 25th April 2015. She returns every year and often takes her four children. She was appalled at the stark level of need, especially for the girls, who will be virtually slaves, unless they can get some education. These children value education and happily study many hours a day. Their standard of living is low – their food is mostly rice, a few vegetables and watery dahl – only eaten twice a day.
There are many health problems, such as, lice, skin rashes, ear and stomach infections. Like many poor children, these lowest caste kids were teased and bullied at the regular schools so Rotary set up a school just for them. Through the money her Montessori school raises, Ainslie brings the Nepali school general items like clothes shoes, books and food. Ainslie's parents run 'Friends of Nepal' who sponsor and mentor older students through programs to aid their transition to the workplace. Fundraising is vital for the ongoing support and the local McLaren Vale Montessori students often come up with really innovative fundraising ideas.

The Smith Family Graduation Ceremony for SA Students
An inspiring ceremony was held on 15th March, at the Braggs Lecture Theatre, University of Adelaide. We heard from Learning for Life students graduating from Year 12 and also Tertiary graduates.
All the students have achieved amazing success and they all acknowledged the continued help from TSF, View Clubs and sponsors. A former Learning for Life student who is now a successful APA Sports Physiotherapist gave a marvellous speech. It is so good to hear from the students themselves and know that the View Club sponsorships are bringing such positive and life changing outcomes for the students and their families
VIEW Club members from Southern Vales, Onkaparinga and Blackwood attended the Graduation Ceremony
