2020 July at Heidelberg VIEW
This year has certainly had its challenges but the committee members of Heidelberg VIEW have, as you can see in the photo opposite, been embracing technology, and meeting up, online. Eight committee members logged onto Zoom and enjoyed seeing each other and discussing issues concerning our club, members, and our Learning For Life students. There also was, of course, lots of laughter!
Club members have been connected via the extensive monthly newsletter and phone calls. Members are also busily knitting for KOGO, gardening, reading and walking.
The year 2020 may be unprecedented, but Heidelberg VIEW members are still being productive, connected and positive!
It’s been a busy month for the members of Heidelberg VIEW!
National Vice President, Beryl Pike, was welcomed to the club meeting. Beryl spoke about her own history with VIEW Clubs, having traveled from QLD, and expressed her pleasure at being able to share time with a Victorian Club.
The speaker at the meeting was Leading Senior Constable Alison Keppel, who spoke about safety in the community and the home.

The next day, fourteen members attended the VIEW International Women’s Day celebration at the World Trade Centre in Docklands.
What a day! An excited buzz, the ambiance of the Yarra vista, glass of champagne in hand, a delicious meal and most importantly celebrating the numerous achievements of women and acknowledging that there is still a long way to go for women’s equality in many areas, were but part of the focus of the day.
We also heard from Emily, a Learning For Life scholarship holder. VIEW Clubs raise funds for The Smith Family, which distributes these scholarships to socially and economically disadvantaged Australian children. Emily told us how grateful she was that a complete stranger wanted to help her. She is now studying law. Stories such as Emily’s give VIEW members joy that we make a difference!
Please scroll down to National and Regional News for more about the IWD celebration.

Strong Beginning for 2020
What a memorable first meeting and a wonderful start to the VIEW year!
Valentine’s Day was the theme and the love was certainly in the room as members greeted each other after the summer break.
Heidelberg VIEW warmly welcomed our new VAO1 Zone Councillor Lorraine Beasley, who officiated at the AGM and presented the new committee to the members. The committee consists of twelve dedicated members who were proud to receive their badges from Lorraine.
This year, through The Smith Family, we are sponsoring five Learning For Life students. Fundraising to support their scholarships is well under way. We are proud to be part of an organisation that supports Australian children in achieving their potential.
A wide-ranging program of excursions, movies and speakers is already planned for the year. For our first meeting, we listened to an interesting presentation from psychologist Linda Black. Her motto is ‘Thrive At Any Age’. So very true, and something that we at Heidelberg VIEW do through our purpose, friendship and learning.
What an inspiring start to the year!

Its a Heidelberg Christmas
Christmas cheer abounded as we celebrated with a sea of red, music and fun! For our final meeting of the year we were entertained by the brilliant singing group Ruby Tuesday.
Members sang along to known carols and also some new ones ‘Dashing through the bush, in a rusty holden ute….’
The picture below shows assistant treasurer Elizabeth and vice-president Jenny raising a glass to a wonderful year of VIEW friendship and achievements.
Heidelberg VIEW sends Christmas wishes to all, a happy and safe New Year and a very warm invitation to join us in 2020.
Books and Stationery for the New Year
Heidelberg VIEW ladies responded to the call for stationery items and hand-made cloth bags. VIEW members pack prep packs each year for children starting school next year in The Smith Family hubs in Dandenong and Collingwood.
There were so many items brought by the members, from scrap books to glue sticks, pencil cases to picture books! Some of our members who are handy with the sewing machine made gorgeous bags, which will help ease the costs involved for parents with a child starting school.
Where there is need VIEW ladies are there!
Blue Illusion National Styling Workshop
NCVA Sandi Muntisov, 4 members of Heidelberg VIEW Club, and a friend attended the Blue Illusion Styling Workshop at the Victorian Balwyn Store.
31 October 2019
The store manager and her staff made us feel very welcomed. As we were entertained with a fashion show of the latest Blue Illusion Summer Fashions, we sipped on a glass of bubbles. Plates of food were offered after the show.
Everyone enjoyed some retail therapy and our credit cards were given a workout. There are going to be some very stylish Heidelberg VIEW members at their next meeting. A great fun day supporting The Smith Family. Thanks Blue Illusion.
Members Carole, Barbara and ZC Sandi wrapped in one of Elena’s massive feather boas.
Happy members with showgirl headgear. How did the girls dance with these on their heads? So heavy and difficult to balance!
2019 October - 32nd Birthday
Fun and frivolity was the order of the day at Heidelberg VIEW Club’s 32nd birthday. The theme was ‘Life Upon A Wicked Stage’ with feather boas of all colours adorning the necks of the club members and many visitors. Martini glasses, baubles, beads and more feathers decorated the tables and the gorgeous birthday cake, all created by vice-president Jenny.
After a delicious meal, members were entertained with stories of the experiences of ex showgirl Elena. We were enthralled by stories of her beginnings in the entertainment industry in the 1960s and her time dancing in Paris, Las Vegas and New York. We saw photographs of Elena’s high fashion life as a model, the elaborate costumes and head gear that depicted the glamourous life of a showgirl.
We all enjoyed a wonderful birthday celebration.
Christmas In July 2019
Christmas in July was the focus of the month! The decorations, a traditional Christmas lunch and Christmas cheer made for a wonderful meeting and get-together.
Instead of a Kris Kringle, members donated monies for TSF Christmas Toy and Book Appeal. Yes a little while away, but thinking ahead to ensure children supported by TSF receive gifts at a special time of the year.
Beanies Not Meanies
As well as TSF, members supported the Alannah and Madeleine Foundation’s anti-bullying program ‘Beanies Not Meanies’. Many members of Heidelberg View knit items for KOGO ( Knit One Give One) and this month was no exception. An incredible thirty-five purple beanies were knitted with love to be distributed by KOGO to people in need.
2019 VA Gala
Members from the five clubs of the VA01 area attended the 2019 VA Gala at The Karralyka Centre in Ringwood, along with clubs from the VA02 and VA03 zones. It may have been a rainy day outside but it was sunshine inside as the room buzzed with the excitement of a wonderful day of friendship, learning and fun.
There were many highlights to the day. Learning about the many different programs run by The Smith Family from Kellie, a learning centre co-ordinator; listening to the heartfelt and moving speech from LFL student Felita as she told of her life in a refugee camp in the Congo to now being tertiary student in Australia, and the impact that the support of TSF had on her life and those of her family; the conversation between members of different clubs; the delicious meal; the entertainment from singing group The Time Steppers; all of that and more made for a wonderful day!
The room was colourful and cheerful thanks to the creative talents of Heidelberg VP Jenny Laught. Thankyou to Sandi Muntisov NCVA, and Lyn Peters ZC VA02 for organising a day to remember!

It was a Sun-Shiny-Day
Excursion to Visit Silo Arts
Twelve members from Heidelberg Club attended their first trip away together to the magnificent Mallee-Wimmera area of Victoria. Accompanying us were five members from Banyule Club and one from Plenty Valley.
The main focus of the trip was to view the amazing silo art that has been created over the past three or so years and which has brought much needed tourist income to country towns. Rupunyup, Lascelles, Sheep Hills, Brim, Rosebury and Patchewollock all display silo artwork that is so emblematic of the people and countryside. All were different, all were stunning.
We also visited attractions such as the Ararat J Ward, Stawell Gift Hall of Fame, two heritage museums and a historic 1909 homestead at Rainbow.
We all learnt so much about this corner of our state, shared many experiences and thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company both during the day and over dinner and a wine in the evenings.
The trip was also successful extending and creating bonds of friendship. Like-minded women having fun, extending their interests and learning so much. Certainly what VIEW is all about!
2019 Laughter in May
Laughter rang around the walls as the members responded to the speaker for this month, Gay Miller. Gay is an accomplished poet, speaker and comedian. Members enjoyed her tales of real life and the funny things that happen to ‘women of a certain age’ but, she feels, especially to her! The pic shows Gay and our program officer Sandra with two of the books of poems that Gay has written.
The theme for the month was Mother’s Day and members left with a pen decorated as a chrysanthemum, very pretty and useful. It was a fun and enjoyable meeting!
Heidelberg VIEW's Community Commitment
As well as raising funds for our four Learning For Life students, members of Heidelberg VIEW Club undertake many hours of community work in the name of VIEW. Three members volunteer at a school breakfast club each week. One member assists with literacy in the classroom once a week. Grocery items are brought by members each month and are taken to two charities which distribute goods to those in need.
Many members also knit for KOGO (Knit One Give One). The speaker this month was Andrea from this wonderful organisation who thanked members for all their efforts in supplying them with knitted squares, rugs, baby items and beanies. These items are then distributed to those in need. The pic shows the items that were knitted and supplied this month. Many hands were busy as the weather has become cooler!
Easter In Heidelberg
The theme for this month was Easter. The pic shows the colourful table decorations created by our always creative vice-president Jenny. We think some grandchildren will love the knitted rabbits that each member was able to take home!
So many creative and clever members at Heidelberg VIEW! So many ways to help the needy in our local community!
