Waverley Day VIEW Club

About

Waverley Day VIEW Club was formed in 1984.

Currently, the Club sponsors twelve Smith Family Learning for Life students, 8 primary, and 4 senior secondary students, and is actively involved in fundraising activities to raise donations for The Smith Family programs.

We are always open to new members, so please get in touch today and come and see what it's all about.  Waverley have a total membership of 93.

2023 Upcoming Events:

Tuesday 27 June:  Lunch at Riversdale Golf Club

February 2023

Our AGM and Election of Office Bearers.  Thank you presentations to our President Leonie (who lead us through the last 3 years including Covid) and to our 3 retiring Committee members – Lyn J, Margaret E. and Loraine B.

 

March 2023

International Women’s Day Morning Tea at Rewa’s home.   Anna (our 100 year old member) joined us for Morning Tea. Easter Raffle raised $234.   March 27-31 was one of our week’s volunteering at Lions Club Op Shop in Mt Waverley.

Our speaker for March was Carolyn Pethick who told us of her experiences in the police force over almost 30 years.

April 2023

At the April and May meetings, our members brought along items to be distributed to the homeless by Mt Waverley Community Information and Support Centre.  Our speaker was Gary Newton – polio survivor.

Our Cake Stall on 28 April raised over $2000.

May 2023

Blue Illusion Fashion Parade @ The Glen  Our models, pictured below were Robyn, Rewa and Lyn C.   Our speaker was Hazel Maynard an Educator from Volunteering Victoria.

   

 

 

2022 December

Our Christmas meeting with entertainment from Laurel McKenna.  We also brought toilet rolls to help support Cottage by the Sea.

 

2022 November

We went to see the film Mrs Harris Goes to Paris at Pinewood Theatre.  This was followed by a basket lunch.

Our Make Bake & Grow Auction raised $1646

Over the last 12 months we have raised $10,838 to help support our 12 Learning for Life students

2022 June With Elvis

Ten members enjoyed a train and bus journey to get to experience the Elvis: Direct from Graceland exhibition followed by lunch at the Bendigo Art Gallery.

 

2022 July and August

July: Our Guest Speaker was Loretta Smith – author of the book A Spanner in the Works which tells of a female mechanic from Kew in 1915 who ran a car servicing business and also a chauffeur service.

Visit to the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces 2022 – The Picasso Century at the National Gallery

August: Members celebrated our 38th Birthday  with the theme Purple Pleasures.  Entertainment by Mandy van Zanen

Our members volunteered their time to work at the Lions Club Op Shop in Mt Waverley

Members finished the month off with a together for Lunch at Zest Restaurant @ Holmesglen TAFE

 

2022 June

Our speaker was Ian Hunt Paramedic and Area Manager Metro 1 of Ambulance Victoria.

June and July meetings: Our members were asked to donate stationery to be distributed by The Smith Family to eligible Prep Students. 

Each meeting: we have a box where members can donate their spare 5c pieces; proceeds go to our Learning for Life student programs.

2022 May

Our speaker was Anne Catchpole Community Relations Guest Speaker and Donation Collection from Cottage by the Sea.  Our member Pam fondly remembers spending time at Cottage by the Sea as a very young child. 

2022 April Cake Stall

Our annual Cake Stall at Mt Waverley Shopping Centre raised $1999 which will be put towards our commitment to sponsor our twelve Learning for Life Students. 

Thank you to our members who helped at working bees, baked for the stall and donated cash and ingredients.  Special thanks to Shirley for another great effort in co-ordinating the morning.

2022 March

Community Donations for March and April, saw our members donate 40 bags of groceries and toiletries to the Mt Waverley Community Information and Support Centre who support the homeless

During March Lyn & Julie modelled articles from the Blue Illusion range at The Glen.

  

Also in March, Models from Ciabella Mia showed off their fabulous fashions, scarves and accessories and tempted a bit of a shopping spree amongst our members!!! 

 

2022 April

Presentation of her 30 year badge to our 99 year old member Anna, who loves VIEW and all that it stands for.  Anna is a very gifted crafter - some of her handiwork displayed here.

Our April speaker Helen Canny, gave an excellent insight into her work at the RSPCA and her area of Home Ever After Pet Legacy program.  Members also enjoyed the twenty Easter raffles prizes.

After speaking at the Vic IWD event, Anton was presented with his VIEW apron by Marg. She got him to model it whilst she modelled the new VIEW poncho and VIEW umbrella.

Area VA Luncheon

It was a Celebration day for so many things VIEW! Outgoing Zone Councillors, Sandi Muntisov (VA01 and VA03) and Lyn Peters (VA02) organised a lunch at The Shoppingtown Hotel in Doncaster for members of the three areas.
