Events of 2020:
Due to the current Corona Virus situation and in line with VIEW/The Smith Family recommendations, Waverley has cancelled all meetings and outings for March, April, May and June.
Our last outing in 2020 was to the International Women’s Day event at Rivers Edge on Thursday 12 March just before LOCKDOWN.
Our last club meeting was on Monday 16 March, 2020.
During Covid our 2020 Committee Members were broken up into groups of 10 with each Committee Member asked to keep in touch via email (and our President mailed out to those not on email) on a monthly basis to update them on what was happening/mostly not happening!! Our President wrote a monthly Newsletter with each Committee member adding their personal touch when emailing their group. We found it was a lovely way of getting to know new members and those that we would not normally get the chance to keep in regular touch. The response from members was overwhelming - in fact some groups met together for a coffee in early December when restrictions allowed. The Committee kept in touch with each other via email and Zoom sessions to make sure that everyone was coping ok and to share our experiences.
Planned Activities in 2020
We had planned to meet for a “Picnic in the Park” in Mount Waverley but due to Covid 19 restrictions on outside gatherings at the time we had to cancel the “Picnic”. Very disappointing as we were all looking forward to catching up again.
The week before Xmas we were given an opportunity to do some Gift Wrapping at Burwood One Shopping Centre in East Burwood. We received a donation of $500 from the Shopping Centre and $763.10 in donations from shoppers.
We had our Committee Meeting on Monday 8 February (even the Newsletter had been printed for distribution at our General Meeting on Monday 15 February) but no luck again when Victoria went into a 5 day lockdown and our 15th February meeting had to be cancelled. The already prepared Newsletters have been emailed/mailed to members.
Guest speaker at the March 16 meeting was Glenys Needham who spoke about the Lions Hearing Dogs Programme. The Clubs wonderful giant Easter Raffle was also drawn at the meeting.
International Women's Day
Twenty two members attended the Victorian IWD Celebration at Rivers Edge, World Trade Centre, Docklands.
Cheryl Williams from The Smith Family spoke to us in February about what is happening/future planning for The Smith Family. Hazel Austin (our new Zone Councillor) conducted our 2020 Elections with Leonie being elected our new President.
Presentations were made to two of our Making a Difference Award Recipients; Gayle and Shirley together with our Retiring President Jeanette.
IWD at home
To celebrate our own IWD activity 35 of our ladies joined together at Helen Mitchell’s home for Morning Tea.
