Making Connections, Makes a Difference in 2023
On Saturday March 11, 2023 Forbes VIEW Club hosted a special luncheon meeting when Past National President and Advisor for Area NH, Anne-Louise O’Connor, gave a powerpoint presentation giving an update of VIEW Nationally and Area NH as well as looking at ways to increase their membership and spread the word of VIEW to the wider community. Special guest was the Mayor of Bathurst Phyllis Miller OAM who welcomed members from Blayney, Orange, Parkes Day and Parkes Evening VIEW Clubs and congratulated the wonderful work VIEW Clubs do in supporting disadvantaged Australian children with their education through The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program. After Anne-Louise’s presentation each club present gave a report on activities they have planned for the year. It was a great day and so good to have the opportunity to catch up with members from the surrounding VIEW Clubs.
2023 March Update
Our club celebrated its 25th birthday in 2022 and is continuing to grow, which is pleasing to see in a small community.
We currently sponsor 4 LFL students.
Our fundraising is primarily from our members. A small part of each member’s dinner fees go to the Smith Family and members also each contribute $10 towards LFL when they pay their annual fees.
We’re also fortunate to have 2 mining companies in the area who help our fundraising.
Newcrest’s Cadia mine donates $250 each year through the 'Good Onya’ scheme. This is a scheme where $250 is paid to any club or organisation who has a member living in the area, who does at least 25 hours of volunteer work in the name of their club.
We also receive a $250 outright donation from Regis mine.
We do however occasionally hold additional fund raising activities. In 2022 we held a high tea to celebrate 100 yrs of VIEW and 25 yrs of our club.
We also held an accessory swap which we’ve done previously & is always financially successful and huge fun. Members bring in unwanted items such as scarves, handbags and jewellery which they no longer use. The items are placed on long tables and members are able to pick up ’new’ items for their wardrobe in return for a small donation.
