2023 February - ZOOM

Nepean Evening VIEW Club’s membership has grown over the last couple of years. This has resulted in a welcome increase in the number of committee members.

Nepean Evening VIEW Club’s committee is continuing to meet over ZOOM as we find it is an efficient and less time consuming way to meet. Information from the meetings flows back to the VIEW Club members via email and post.

ZOOM allows the committee to invite people who are curious about what happens at committee level to attend meetings and observe proceedings. For some, this led to the decision to join the committee.

We look forward to working together in 2023.

COVID Innovations

At Nepean Evening VIEW  we are still holding our dinner meetings and we have enjoyed many interesting guest speakers.  We have had to be creative in our fundraising because of social distancing and Covid restrictions. We have found online raffles work well.  Some of our members are talented quilters and donated a beautiful quilt to raffle.  This was very successful.

We held a virtual cake stall where members contributed the cost of the ingredients that would normally be used in the baking for the stall.  We also provided our recipes to create a recipe book which members can then purchase; all proceeds to support our Learning for Life students.

Welcoming Brooke

At June's dinner meeting President Fran, presented our bubbly new member, Brooke, with her VIEW badge.  At 24 years of age we think Brooke could possibly be the youngest VIEW member in Australia.  We wish her many happy years in VIEW.

We hope this current lockdown is only two weeks.  It has been good to meet in person again.

Marvelous Guide Dogs

Our wonderful guest speaker had us all going home to check our fences and think about a new addition to the family.  Margot Stuckey from the Guide Dogs Association NSW/ACT, based in Glossodia, delighted us with photos and a video of the many guide dog puppies ...oh and she did tell us about the serious stuff too.  The Association does an amazing job, helping so many people, both visually impaired and sighted.

Learning About VIEW

Our October meeting was another great dinner meeting.  President Fran thanked everyone for their stationery contributions to the Learning for Life program.

Dolores Jelincic and Courtney Lamaro from The Smith Family talked to us about the Learning for Life Program, outlining how students are selected for the program and how The Smith family works with these students, their families and their schools, to keep them in the program.

We learned so much about the role of VIEW clubs in this important program.
