Meet Our 2024 Committee
Final 2023 Report
Another year has come to a close and 2023 was a credit to the hard work of members and the Committee – 69 members and sponsorship of 12 students through Learning for Life Program; plus, support of other educational programs through The Smith Family and provision of resources for the Roseworth Child and Parent Centre – congratulations and well done everyone!!
MONTHLY EVENTS SEPTEMBER – DECEMBER :
SEPTEMBER – we celebrated our 22nd birthday with a lunch at the Cambridge Bowling Club. Guest speakers were Kerryn Lambert (representing TSF) and Kevin Outred, philanthropist and a donor to TSF since 2017. We presented a cheque for $1500.00 to TSF, to help provide digital access to those students who have no internet connection at home. The entertainment, ‘Shed Song Choir’ had everyone singing along and thoroughly enjoying themselves – thanks to Jan who organised this for us. A great celebration and there were lots of happy raffle winners thanks to the generosity of club members who provided so many fabulous prizes.
The POST Community Newspaper published an article and lovely photograph about our birthday celebrations – we greatly appreciate this publicity for our VIEW Club and TSF. This year POST has published four articles about WSVC and we greatly appreciated this free publicity.
OCTOBER – the outing for this month was to the very popular Bentley Pines (TAFE hospitality training restaurant) and members loved the fine dining experience – beautifully cooked and presented food and excellent service.
Monthly Meeting – prior to the meeting we listened to an amazing guest speaker, Cr Hengemeh Amiry who had us enthralled with her life story from her birth in Iran, migrating to UK and ending up in Australia as a chemical engineer and a councillor for the Town of Nedlands. During the meeting which followed we welcomed new member Kerry who was presented with her badge. Committee member reports were provided and Ros gave the ‘TSF Snippet’. A reminder was given to all members that AGM would be held next month and all Committee positions would be declared vacant.
NOVEMBER – Historic East Perth Cemetery was an interesting venue for the outing - a guided tour by the National Trust provided lots of information about this historical burial site from the early days of the colony 1830-1899. There are 10,000 people buried here but only a few hundred headstones can be seen. A pleasant lunch overlooking the waters at Claisbrook followed.
AGM AND FINAL MEETING FOR 2023 – our club had a very big morning – AGM, November General Meeting, followed up by a Christmas morning tea! The AGM was chaired by Anne, a long-term experienced club member, and the new Committee for 2024 was elected, along with new President Glen. The outgoing Committee members were thanked and acknowledged for their hard work. A special thanks and acknowledgement were made to our outgoing President Jennifer who held the position for a number of years, working tirelessly for WSVC, including guiding the club through the challenges thrown up during the Covid Pandemic. WSVC acknowledges and greatly appreciates the dedication and hard work of Jennifer, a long -term VIEW Club member, Committee member and President.
The General Meeting followed and was chaired by the incoming President. Topics covered included – need to increase membership fees, Mothers’ Day Trade Table to be held in April; reports tabled and attached to minutes. Finally, a wonderful Christmas morning tea was enjoyed as members socialised and chatted – a lovely ending to a terrific year for WSVC members!
DECEMBER – our very dedicated Outings Officers organised a final outing for this year. This was a most informative and ‘hands on’ guided tour of the Old Court House and Supreme Court.
2023 has been a great year for our club and the ongoing work of WSVC, VIEW Clubs across Australia and The Smith Family provides invaluable support for young Australians, especially during the current cost of living crisis in our country.
Club update - August 2023
Time for another update of our club activities from end of April through to end of August, time to farewell winter and look forward to spring and our big birthday celebrations – 22nd Birthday lunch on September 27th.
As a club we have continued to grow and thrive and currently have 69 members; we are sponsoring 12 students and provide support to Roseworth Child and Parent Centre. August is the month that our club conducts the annual olive oil fund raiser and we have raised $925.00. THANKS must go to Eleanor and her team who donate many bottles of this fabulous virgin olive oil to our club to use as a valuable fund raiser.
Guided tour of Fremantle Port Authority
The three volunteer guides gave our members a most interesting tour which started in the Port Authority building, then to the C Y O’Connor monument and ended at the harbour side with views of Gage Roads. We were given important historic information about the amazing work of engineer, C Y O’Connor in the building of Fremantle Harbour, railways and Goldfields pipeline, all of which contributed to the development of WA.
August monthly meeting
Guided tour of St Marys Cathedral and St John the Evangelist Church
This tiny church was first cathedral of the Catholic Church in the Swan River Colony. Our guide held our attention as she brought to life the history and men and women who worked to establish the church buildings in the early years of the colony and beyond, until the present-day Cathedral was closed in 2006, renovated and reopened in 2009. A fantastic outing, so much to see and learn.
July monthly meeting
Three new members were welcomed and presented with their badges – Ann, Helen and Sharon. General business included information about birthday lunch arrangements; members to sign photo permission forms; Irene showed library bags she had made for Kindy kids at Roseworth and asked members to help to make some more. Committee members gave reports. Another terrific meeting, lovely morning tea and opportunity to socialise.
Mt Gloria Museum North Beach.
Another interesting outing attended by 16 members who appreciated the sunny weather as they met at the venue. Thanks to outing organisers and to Glen who stepped in to take photos.June monthly meeting
GUEST SPEAKER – Steve Rogers, Writing Family Histories, currently a very popular activity with many people involved in researching and building family trees.
MONTHLY MEETING – there were 46 members and one new member in attendance with 11 apologies – thank you to all those members who sent in their apologies; these figures show that WSVC has a keen and interested membership! At this meeting, Club President acknowledged the work of a number of club members – Margaret who has taken on the task of making the delicious sandwiches for morning tea; Irene who will assist Lynne in the role of coordinator for Roseworth Child and Parent Centre; Jan who knitted the cute soft toys for children attending Roseworth – well done and THANK YOU ladies. CONGRATULATIONS to Judy who was presented with her 10-year service badge. Other items included – need to sign photo permission forms, request for raffle items for birthday lunch and reports presented by Committee members. Glen again helped out with photos.
WSVC AND BLUE ILLUSION FLOREAT FASHION FUND RAISING EVENT
This has become a regular annual event for the club thanks to Raelene (WSVC Project Officer) and Jeanne-Marie (Blue Illusion). Sixteen members had loads of fun, enjoyed delicious nibbles and relished the gorgeous fashions modelled by our own renowned super models, Glen and Di. THANK YOU to Blue Illusion and to all the members who ‘shopped until they dropped’ and purchased many new winter fashion items. A most successful fund raiser, well done everyone involved!THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY WSVC MEMBERS
An outstanding response from members for a request by Roseworth asking for donations for the WINTER APPEAL- a great need for women’s warm winter coats, jackets, jumpers. Members responded by donating many, many bags of clothes, which were delivered by Irene. Members’ generosity was greatly appreciated. The West Australian Pulse Exhibition at Art Gallery of WA
The West Australian Pulse Exhibition at Art Gallery of WA
This was one occasion when the weather goddess failed to provide fine weather for a planned outdoor event for members, so a quick, last-minute change was made, thanks to club president and the Outings Officers and this resulted in a guided tour at AGWA. Members were able to view the Pulse Exhibition which consisted of works by Year 12 Visual Arts students from 36 schools across WA. Themes included mental health, , social pressures, gender, culture and technology. There are certainly many creative and talented young artists within our state. A terrific art exhibition and outing!
CAPES VIEW CLUB
Capes VIEW Club birthday lunch was attended by Ros, Di and Kerrie and by all accounts they had a great time and rumour has it that the champagne was very drinkable!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Capes VIEW Club!Welcome to 2023
Our year is in full swing –very interesting club outings organised, and a variety of informative guest speakers given time to address members prior to each monthly meeting. THANKS must go to Raelene who organises the guest speakers and our new Program Officers, Fran, Margaret and Carol who have responsibility for the club outings. As we held the AGM at the end of last year, the Committee and club were ready to go in February.

Child and Parent Centre
We learnt so much about the Centre and how it works with its multicultural community to improve outcomes for children’s education. It was wonderful to learn what staff at the Centre do with our recycled bottle tops, and donations of crochet rugs and toys and books. The bottle tops end up in Kindy packs made up by staff – 10 tops per pack, 2000 a year needed!! Our massive toy donation in December last year provided Christmas gifts for many happy children. What a wonderful work carried out by Helen, Hayley and TSF!

Friendship at Meetings in March 2023
Our meeting which followed was attended by 40 members and 3 visitors. As a lovely gesture of well-deserved acknowledgement and recognition, our President introduced our quiet, behind the scenes members who undertake duties at each meeting to ensure things run smoothly and efficiently – book sellers, morning tea organizers and club hostesses – THANK YOU so much for all your hard work!
Members were told of an invitation from Roseworth Child and Parent Centre to attend a special “thank you” morning tea, to acknowledge our ongoing support and donations throughout 2022 – several members indicated they would be able to attend.
Jake was the winner of the ‘lucky number’ $50.00 – lots of big smiles from Jake! The usual Committee member reports were presented. The Information Snippet showed members how to access the VIEW website and find clubs Australia wide. Another very full and successful meeting.
Exciting Start to 2023
Exciting Start to 2023
The guest speaker who addressed members prior to the monthly general meeting on was Sharon from O2BOrganised; lots of ideas to declutter and to cultivate a thoughtful wardrobe!
This talk was followed by the monthly meeting, which had an attendance of 50 members. Following are some points covered - Committee members for this year were individually introduced and spoke briefly about their role; new member Susan was welcomed and presented with her badge; The Smith Family information snippet was introduced by Ros and will be a regular component of meetings. Members were informed of a new idea – a regular post-meeting lunch will be held at Floreat Forum, all members and visitors welcome.
